Product & Company Certifications

The sports ball product line for North America from Fair Trade Sports, Inc has several certifications on them, including the first-ever “green” certification for balls. Our eco-certification refers to the rubber that makes up 70% of our sports balls. Our rubber tree forests in India and Sri Lanka have been third-party certified as sustainably managed.
Our Fair Trade certification refers to a third party certification that our adult workers are paid a living wage and ensured healthy working conditions. By marrying the Fair Trade certification system to the existing “no child labor” movement, we have created a lasting, positive solution to the root problem behind child labor, which is extreme poverty. By paying the parents a certified Fair Trade wage, they are not forced to put their children to work just so the family can survive.

You’d have to be living in complete denial to not realize that our environment is in serious trouble. Our belief at Fair Trade Sports is that over consumption plays an enormous role in that problem as well. It’s a bit ironic for a retail company – who frankly wants you to buy our stuff – to talk about over consumption, but we’d be negligent not to.
So, when your current sport ball gets worn out, explodes, or gets lost, we’d love to have you as a customer. With that said, we do try to minimize our impact on the environment. Our office uses green energy, our retail displays are made of FSC wood, and we are trying to find new ways to make our packaging more sustainable. We try to minimize printing, but when we have to it’s on recycled paper.
